  • In the morning we are alert, our vigilance or “inhibitory control” helps our brains solve analytical problems. But for creative insights problems you actually need your guard to be down, it is best to complete these tasks in the afternoon.
  • People feel increasingly warm towards others in the morning, peaking around lunch time, then it drops back with a dip around 16.00 hr, increasing to a peak around 20.00 hr.

When you read business books you wonder if it would be possible to compact the content into 4 to 5 pages. In most cases the answer is yes. Even the Seven Habits by Stephen Covey, one of my favorites, can be found all over the web in condensed versions. Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap… and Others Don’t is a management book by Jim C. Collins that describes how companies transition from being good companies to great companies, and how most companies fail to make the transition. The book was published on October 16, 2001. “Greatness” is defined as financial performance several multiples better than the market average over a sustained period. Collins finds the main reason certain companies become great is they narrowly focus the company’s resources on their field of key competence.



ZERO TO ONE – Peter Thiel

“If you focus on near-term growth above all else, you miss the most important question you should be asking: will this business be around a decade from now? Numbers alone won’t tell you the answer; instead you must think critically about the qualitative characteristics of your business.”
